KW26 Kavanagh & The Beats
Jack Kerouac, ‘The Beginning of Bop’ – “First everyone looked around and then it happened – bop happened – the bird flew in – minds went in…” In his dialogic Patrick Kavanagh: Poet and Prophet, Micheal O’Siadhail writes “…reborn I choose the bebop ease of Beats. Ambition’s bells are always false alarms. No-caring jag. The jazz of unconcern,” making Kavanagh’s late verse ring like a bell following his NYC encounter with The Beats. Taking him at his word, Unreal Cities present a late- night flight of the bird – Charlie Parker – in Kavanagh and The Beats, in which world-renowned actors and improvising musicians give voice to poetry, at the speed of jazz.
