KW26 Brehon Lore
The New York Times described Anne Waldman, the poet who gave us Fast Speaking Woman, as “one of the fastest, wisest women to run with the wolves in some time.” Waldman’s lifelong engagement with chant as central to contemporary performative poetry has found new words for spells, invocations, laments and rituals, and shaped a site where archaic beliefs in magic and ecstasy meet current notions of the power of the spoken word. Supporting her on this journey, Unreal Cities invite The Master Musicians of Jajouka led by Bachir Attar, whose Sufi trance rhythms were pursued by William Burroughs, Brion Gysin, Ornette Coleman and Brian Jones, Jean-Marc Barr the actor who played Kerouac in the 2013 film Big Sur, the Armagh Rhymers, a duo set from Emer Mayock on Uilleann Pipes and Flute and Donal Siggins on Bouzouki and Electronics, Tate Swindell the editor of the complete Bob Kaufman, Jinx Lennon, and Adrian Dunbar, directing proceedings supported by six actors from the Lir Academy; James Michael Agnew, Kailey Greenberg, Eoghan Kenna, Penny Morris, Tierra Porter and Dominic Raymond and an eight-piece ensemble led by saxophonist Nick Roth.
